Why NemKonto?

All citizens and businesses in Denmark must have a NemKonto. Your NemKonto is the account that all public authorities use when they transfer money to you.

  • NemKonto is used, for example, to pay out excess tax, transfer income, child and youth support, pensions and salaries to public employees.

  • A NemKonto is an ordinary bank account that you already have. Therefore, you do not need to open a new bank account to get a NemKonto and to receive payments from public authorities.

  • You just need to choose which of your existing regular bank accounts you want to use as your NemKonto. Most citizens use their salary account as their NemKonto, but your salary account and NemKonto can easily be two different accounts - it's entirely up to you.
